I am reading about portal hypertension in “Robbin’s Pathologic Basis of Disease.” The author states that the basic mechanism is the contraction of smooth muscle cells and myofibroblasts in the hepatic sinusoids. Where exactly are these cells? Are they in the sinusoidal space? Or are they in the walls of portal venules and hepatic arterioles? The author specifically says “sinusoidal,” but I don’t see them in my histology text (Carlos Junquiera, Basic Histology.) Thank you.
